Hello adventurers!
My right arm is still not working correctly, which means I’m focusing my writing time on my big projects this week while I give myself a physical break.
(Though I did get some advice from an accupressurist on dealing with the problem nerve, which hopefully means I’ll be back to my normal level of work soon!)
In the meantime, I have just a few fun resources to share with you…
Are you using photos with your content?
It’s a pretty well-established fact that online content with images get shared more.
This is true no matter where they come from: blogs, Facebook, Google+… people like photos. People notice photos.
But when you’re starting your freelance adventure… well, you don’t have a lot of cash flow. And buying images can get expensive.
To help stretch your budget, I’ve put together a quick roundup of some of my favorite places for free images!
Use these 4 sites to get free photos for your blog
Death to the Stock Photo: This one is great. You join for free, and every month they send you a bundle of photos for your use. And these aren’t just low quality, someone-snapped-this-in-their-basement photos. They’re very creative and beautiful.
500px: The images on this site are truly gorgeous and available for use under Creative Commons licenses (which they explain in detail on the site.)
Little Visuals: Not only is this site free, but they deliver the photos straight to your inbox! Once you sign up, you’ll be sent 7 hi-res photos each week.
Gratisography: This is one of those sites where I keep expecting to pay, but it keeps being free. Photographer Ryan McGuire makes these photos of his available copyright free for both personal and commercial projects.
Of course, even when photos are free, it’s always best to be courteous. Link back to the artist or the site where possible, if only to acknowledge how awesome they are for letting you use their content for free. And always be sure to check the terms and conditions for any images you use.
Do you have a favorite place to find images for your content?
Psst – if you liked this post, be sure to share it with your friends!

Katherine – thanks for this blog post. I do need sources for photos and I am operating on a small budget – until the big bucks start rolling in :-).
The way you have these photos inset into your blog post is really good. These are also good photos.

Stephen,
Glad to help! The quality of free photos out there just keeps getting better. I don’t think there’s any reason to pay for them unless you absolutely have to — especially now that a lot of websites expect their content writers to source their own images without paying extra!
