Adventurers, today is one of those days where focusing on work is almost impossible.
I can’t go into a lot of details, but I do have one important thing to say about work today:
Know when to let it go.
Whatever sort of business you have, you invest a lot in it.
I invest a lot in my freelance work. I think about it constantly. I have goals I’m always working towards. I worry about money and clients and whether or not I’ve heard back from an editor that I sent a query to last week.
It can be easy to get so invested in work that you spend all your time stressed out and preoccupied, ignoring the things that are really important.
But at the beginning of this week, I came very close to losing someone very important to me. On the other side of that experience — 10 second that made the difference between life and death and severe injury for four people, one of whom I love dearly — it’s hard to care about queries and invoices and my daily word count.
So here’s my advice for you: know when to let your work go. Give the people you love a hug. Because you never know how close you are to losing them. And in the end, they’re what really matter.
