This month made me really, really appreciate the flexibility that being fully freelance provides me.
My parents are in the middle of a big, multi-state move. So I split my weeks between my own home and driving down to help my mom pack up their house, since my dad had already left to start his new job.
Last month, I couldn’t have spent half my time in another state. Or if I had, I would be short a number of paychecks and have a very cranky boss. But this month, I could just take the work with me, and I’m so grateful for that.
Projects & Opportunities
- This month was a lot of writing for clients – luckily, I really love the work. I also started writing for a new website.
- I’m still mentally recovering from turning down that great acting opportunity last month. And the best way to do that is to get back out there. I had a musical theatre audition this month that I was incredibly proud of, given my near-paralyzing fear of vocal auditions. I also spent a couple of days filming commercials, which is always a fun opportunity, without the stress of a major project.
- I’m trying to really focus on my fiction writing this fall, since I don’t have a theatre show to take up my time. I wrote two short stories this month (about 7,000 words each). Now, I just have to make myself edit them…
October Goals
- Return to my WIP novel. I realized in August that I was going to have to start over – the story needed to be told differently. While it was a good revelation, it was a bad month for it, so I had to take some time away. It’s time to go back now and really crank this thing out.
- Keep auditioning. It takes about 10 (or more) auditions to get a job. I hit the reset button on that count in August, which stinks. But work won’t come if I sit on my butt.
- Get myself on more of a schedule. This month was crazy with all the travel; now that things have calmed down, I hope I can get organized again.
I may start an organization Pinterest board for inspiration…
