First, I want to start by recognizing everyone who shared, encouraged, and promoted my fundraiser for The Florence Project.
Running a promotion like this is a bit of a shot in the dark — you never know if people will pay attention or if you’ll get lost in the noise of the internet. But I had a great group of people tweeting, posting, and emailing to say that they supported what I was doing, and I appreciate that so deeply.
Second, a huge, heartfelt thank you to the businesses and entrepreneurs who purchased services. I was so touched by the response I received.
Together, the people who purchased copywriting and consulting donated $250 for The Florence Project in just five days.
As anyone who has ever sold freelance services knows, that’s incredibly fast commitment for buying services online. Y’all are the best x1,000,000.
How Your Small Business Can Give Back
I believe strongly in creating businesses that do more than just make money. This doesn’t just mean donating money — there are lots of ways to give back to your community.
If you want to create a business that supports the causes and principles you believe in, take a look at the resources below to get a few ideas.
Giving Back: 4 Ways Your Company Can Do Good
Today’s consumers, particularly millennials, are looking for more than just a product from the brands they support. They also want social responsibility and corporate accountability. For many companies, this is changing how they market their products to younger generations. But don’t stop at marketing. Here are four ways your company can do good while growing and reaching new customers.
Is An Ethical Supply Chain Worth the Cost?
Using photos and videos on Instagram, they showed their followers scenes of workers making rugs and other products, captioned with information about the company’s commitment to providing safe, reliable, profitable jobs to local artisans. The posts garnered thousands of likes in a matter of hours, along with praise for the company’s ethics.
How Businesses Can Partner With a Charity
If you already give to charity in your personal life, adding a charitable partnership to your business model may seem like an unnecessary complication. But the infrastructure and reach of your business can allow your volunteer hours and donations, whether monetary or in-kind, to have far more impact than individual giving.
The Clients Who Made It Happen
Finally, I want to take a moment to individually thank those who contacted me about purchasing services during this fundraiser.
From digital publishers to entrepreneurs just starting out, these are folks you’ll definitely want to keep an eye on!
Kelsey Johnson (Twitter)
A professional career counselor who has worked with non-profit organizations and universities, Kelsey is gearing up to launch her own private coaching business, including workshops, aptitude testing, and one-on-one coaching. She’s got amazing advice to share for everyone looking to improve, accelerate, or change their careers. Kelsey is especially passionate about providing the tools that low-income and first-generation college students need to launch sustainable careers.
Purch Inc. (website)
Tech Media Network owns a variety of digital publishing platforms, and the two I write for most frequently are Business News Daily and Business.com. The articles on these sites aren’t just generic, regurgitated advice that you can find anywhere. With a focus on journalistic writing and valuable insight, BND and Business.com go above and beyond finding real business owners who can share genuine advice about everything from hiring the right people for your startup to working from home when the kids are on summer break.
First Quarter Finance (website)
Will started FQF to prove his financial bona fides at the start of his career. It’s now one of the top finance websites online. Rather than repeating the same generic opinions on emergency funds and side hustles that you find on most finance blogs, FQF focuses on questions people are asking about everyday money management. From finding good part-time work to which stores offer price matching to where you can lease expensive equipment when starting a business, you’ll find advice that is thoroughly researched to give you real answers.
Thank you again to everyone who supported and encouraged this fundraiser!
